The difference between PLA and ABS supplies:
When printing PLA, the smell of marshmallow smell (this smell sensitive to the careful purchase), unlike ABS as the bad smell of the nose. PLA can print a large part model without a heating bed and the corners do not tilt. PLA has a low shrinkage rate, even when printing larger size models. PLA has a lower melt strength. The print model is easier to shape, has excellent surface gloss, and is bright.
PCL is a less common 3D printed material whose unique properties limit its range of applications and allow it to be used for very specific purposes.
This plastic has some excellent properties that are well suited for 3D printing, such as layer adhesion, which reduces delamination caused by stress along the layer boundaries. In addition, it has excellent impact strength and durability. However, PCL also has a melting temperature of only 60 degrees Celsius, which is much lower than the commonly used 3D printing materials such as PLA and ABS, both of which have melting temperatures above 200 degrees Celsius. This means that most FDM-based 3D printers can easily print PCL with low hot end temperatures.
It is conceivable that this melting temperature is a combination of advantages and disadvantages: if you want to use 3D printed PCL parts in any environment close to 60 ° C, then be careful because they will soften and may fail. You won't want to use this to print a GPS cradle for your car dashboard.
On the other hand, this property may be useful in other situations. For example, you can immerse a PCL piece in a bucket of water slightly below 60 ° C to soften it. It can then be reshaped to match where it was previously unsuitable.
There is a similar example, such as 3D printing a rivet that just passes through the hole. With a little heat, you can reshape one end of the rivet so you can permanently fix it in one place. Another example is that if a plug-in lid is a bit unsuitable, it can be corrected by slightly softening it.
In addition, this material is also very suitable for 3D printers for children. It is well known that ordinary 3D printers with high temperatures above 200 degrees Celsius are very unsafe for children. If you can reduce the print temperature to 60 degrees Celsius, it is clear that this problem is solved. And PCL is biodegradable, biocompatible and non-toxic, so if you are considering developing a 3D printer for children, PCL is a very suitable material option.
